The unrest in Iran reaches unprecedent escalation
Recently, Iran faces domestic and international pressure against the regime. The protests have widespread in 31 provinces. This is the biggest challenge in years for Iran. On Thursday, the authorities decided to shutdown the communication to block the international interference in such a deadly crisis.
U.S president Donald Trump threatens the authorities of killing the protests. However, Human rights organization report estimate 500 individuals and at least 9 children were killed. Accordingly, Donald Trump told the media on board Air force one that the US is discussing strong military options. Also, the US stated that Iran wants to negotiate about the threats imposed by the US.
What is the reason of the protests?
The high inflation caused the Bazaaris to lose their profit and can't finance their businesses. The prices of the basic food supplies like cooking oil and chicken spiked massively. Furthermore, the central bank initiated a program that prevents the population from obtaining cheaper dollar prices than the rest of the market. This pressure ignited the anger within the bazaaris.
The unrest started 2 weeks ago in Tehran and was spread across 180 cities. These protests are voting for a change of regime due to unbeneficial decisions that caused the population to suffer.
The reformist government announced that it'll give 7$ monthly to all the population. This aid didn't meet the needs of the population.
The unrest is the biggest in scale since 2022, when the 22 year old Mahsa Amini was murdered by the religious police. This provoked alot of women to raise the slogan of: Women, life, Freedom!
As the population is fueled by poverty and ethnic inequality, they chanted: Death to Khomeini.
What's different about this protests?
This movement was initiated by the bazaaris that are known traditionally as loyal to the regime. They play crucial roles in political movements of Iran.
The situation is intensified to the point that the government calls any person who is against the regime as Moharebeh that faces the consequence of persecution.
How were the relations between Egypt and Iran?
It is a long and complicated relationship. In the 20th century, the ties were improved with Pahlavi Shah and it included a royal marriage between princess Fawzia of Egypt and the Shah of Iran.
In 1960, the diplomatic relations were cutoff when Iran recognized the state of Israel which angered the Egyptian leadership at the time.
In 1979, the diplomatic relations were extremely limited especially after the rise of the Islamic revolution.
Both countries didn't achieve full diplomatic relationships only interest offices instead of embassies.
The relationships were weakened further by the regional rivalries, ideological beliefs and conflicts on Middle East.
In recent times both parties are open to explore cooperation in various fields but both are cautious and careful.
