Iran denies plans to execute protesters

On 15 January 2026, iranian foreign minister Abbas Araghchi denied persecution of protesters during the widespread unrest in the country as an attempt to reduce potential escalations from the U.S. He told Fox News in the interview that executions are out of the question.

He encouraged Washington to pursue negotiation rather than escalating tensions. When he was asked what he would tell to U.S President Donald Trump, he suggested that diplomacy is preferable to military conflict. He added that Washington can monitor the situation closely to check if the assurances were applied.

He stated that there is an Israeli plot to cause casualities to drag the U.S into intervention. This situation encouraged governments to reduce their diplomatic presence in the region and major Airline like Emirates, Qatar airways and Turkish airlines canceled the flights to Iran.

The Unites States of America advised some personnel to leave Udeid airbase in Qatar which fueled speculation of a possible U.S Strike.
